James Riley appeared in 82 matches over four seasons at Wake Forest, helping lead the Demon Deacons to four-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. The Colorado Springs native was noted for his durability throughout his college career.
Riley is tied for 12th in career starts (79) within program history and also tied for 18th in games played (82). His unselfish play resulted in him finishing as a top-30 player in career assists (29th with 16 total).
Riley was part of a then-program record four-man draft class, being selected with the 21st overall pick by the New England Revolution in the 2005 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft. He went on to make 73 MLS appearances and 268 overall professional matches from 2005-15. Riley continued his impact in winning, helping the L.A. Galaxy secure the 2014 MLS Cup. He also finished as a five-time Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup champion and three-time Eastern Conference Champion. In 2009, Riley was named the Seattle Sounders’ Player of the Year.
