WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest forward Joline Charlton and defender Stacy Roeck each scored a goal to lead the 11th-ranked Demon Deacons to a 2-0 victory over East Carolina on Wednesday night at Spry Stadium.
With the victory, Wake Forest improved to 12-4 on the season, while East Carolina dropped to 10-4-1.
The Demon Deacons jumped to a 1-0 lead when Charlton scored from 15 yards out off of a feed from Emily Taggart at the 19:24 mark in the first half. Wake Forest extended the lead to 2-0 in the game's 26th minute when Roeck scored with a header off a corner kick from Lindsey Griffin.
Wake Forest dominated much of the action, outshooting East Carolina 23-5 for the match, but ECU goalkeeper Amy Horton made nine saves to keep the Pirates close throughout. Wake Forest goalkeepers Erin Regan and Beth Klein combined to make three saves and record the shutout for the Demon Deacons.
Wake Forest will return to action when the Deacons host Louisville on Friday at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium in the final regular season home game of the 1999 season.
