Capone Named to All-ACC Men's Golf Team

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest senior Michael Capone (Cranston, R.I.) was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference men's golf team, it was announced today by the conference office. Capone was the only Demon Deacon among the 13 players selected to the all-conference team by the ACC coaches.
Capone has been the Deacs' most consistent player during the 1998-99 season, playing in all 12 events and recording a team-low 72.7 stroke average. He earned four top 10 finishes and placed in the top 20 three other times, shooting at or under par in 19 of 34 rounds. Capone won the first individual tournament title of his career just two weeks ago, carding three consecutive rounds in the 60s (68-68-69) to win the Wofford College Invitational. Capone's 54-hole total of 205 tied the tournament record and was seven strokes lower than his previous career best. Capone was instrumental in helping Wake Forest to a national runner-up finish in 1997, finishing sixth individually at the NCAA Championships to earn honorable mention All-America honors.
Although the Demon Deacons are unlikely to receive an invitation to postseason play this year, Capone is an extremely strong candidate to earn an individual bid to the NCAA East Regional when the field is announced tomorrow, Tuesday, May 11th.
