ATLANTA -- Freshman Niesha Butler scored a game-high 26 points, and senior Kenya Williams added 19 as Georgia Tech downed Wake Forest 74-58 in an Atlantic Coast Conference women's basketball game Wednesday night at Alexander Memorial Coliseum at McDonald's Center.
Junior Danielle Donehew finished with 17 points for the Yellow Jackets (13-9, 6-6 ACC) and became Tech's leader for three-pointers made in a season. Donehew tied the record of 71 held by Karen Lounsbury on the first shot of the game. She finished with five threes on the night and now has 75 three-pointers on the season.
Williams became the 15th player in Georgia Tech women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points. Williams reached the milestone on a short jumper with 13:00 minutes to play after Wake Forest (6-15, 2-9 ACC) had cut a 12-point second-half Tech lead to three.
Williams was fouled on the play and converted from the foul line to put the Jackets up six. The three-point play started a 13-2 Tech run that allowed the Jackets seize control of the game.
Freshman guard Val Klopfer and sophomore forward Olivia Dardy led the Demon Deacons with 14 points each. Freshman center LaChina Robinson added 10 for Wake.
