Men's Golf Places 12th at Duke Golf Classic

DURHAM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf team recorded a team score of 301 in the final to finish 12th out of 15 teams at the Duke Golf Classic in Durham, N.C. The event was held on the 7,045-yard, par-72 course at the Duke Golf Club.

The Demon Deacons, who stood in a tie for 11th heading into today's round, saw just one player break par and two shoot in the 80's on the final 18. With a tournament total of 899, or 35-over par, the Deacs finished 35 strokes behind the team champion, North Carolina, which won its second straight Duke Golf Classic title by finishing at even par.

Senior Oscar Sanchez (Canary Island, Spain) shot a 70 in the final round to jump from 48th to 28th place, finishing 5-over par for the tournament. Sanchez was 10 strokes back of the individual champion, East Tennessee State's Eamonn Brady, who finished at 5-under.

Seniors Michael Capone (Cranston, RI) and Juan Vizcaya (Madrid, Spain) both finished in atie for 43rd place at 9-over par, shooting 76 and 75 today, respectively. Freshman Jay Morgan (Choctaw, OK) carded an 81 to finish 60th at 15-over, while junior Jamie Gallacher (Surrey, England) shot an 80 to place 65th at 16-over.

The tournament concluded Wake Forest's fall season.
