Prieto, Kirwin Named to Golfweek/Sagarin All-District Team

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest women's golfers MARTA PRIETO and KELLY KIRWIN were named to the 1999 Golfweek/Sagarin All-Mid-Atlantic/East District Team, it was announced today. Prieto earned second-team all-district honors, while Kirwin was named to the honorable mention squad.
Prieto, a sophomore, started every tournament for the Demon Deacons in 1998-99 and posted a team-low 75.7 stroke average. She earned three top 10 finishes on the year, including a fourth-place showing at the ACC Championships in April. Prieto was named to the All-ACC women's golf team earlier this spring and finished the year ranked No. 42 in the nation in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
Kirwin, a junior, competed in all 10 tournaments and recorded a 76.5 stroke average, earning three top ten finishes. Her best showing of the year was a second-place showing at the Caso de Campo Intercollegiate in March. She was ranked No. 70 in the nation in the final Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
The Wake Forest women's golf team finished the year ranked No. 21 in the nation in the GolfWeek/Sagarin team rankings. The Deacs earned their seventh straight NCAA bid, finishing ninth at the NCAA East Regional in Blythewood, S.C.
