Ryan Gioffre Named GCAA All-America Scholar

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Senior Ryan Gioffre (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro Day), a standout on the Demon Deacon men's golf team, has been named a Golf Coaches' Association of America (GCAA) Top Flite/Etonic All-America Scholar for 1998, it was announced recently. It is the second academic award this year for Gioffre, who was named to the GTE Acedemic All-District Team last month.

Gioffre was the Deacs' top performer this spring, playing in seven tournaments and recording a 72.86 stroke average. He posted top 20 finishes in three spring events, including a fourth-place finish at the BellSouth Yellow Pages Intercollegiate on April 10-11. Gioffre was also a key member of the 1997 Deacon squad that finished second at the NCAA Championships.

Gioffre graduated from Wake Forest this spring with a degree in sociology and plans to attend PGA Tour qualifying school next fall. He was Dean's List student and a four-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll, carrying a 3.26 grade point average.
