Deacs Finish 12th at Schenkel E-Z-GO Intercollegiate

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Wake Forest men's golf team struggled to a 309 in the final round of play to finish 12th out of 15 teams at the Chris Schenkel E-Z-GO Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, played on the 6,945-yard, par-72 course at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga.

Top-ranked Clemson earned the team title by virtue of a playoff with Georgia, after both teams finished with three-round team scores of 869. The Demon Deacons carded a 54-hole mark of 902, or 38-over-par, and were 33 strokes behind the Tigers and the Bulldogs.

Senior Michael Capone (Cranston, RI) was just one stroke out of the lead after shooting 71-69 on Saturday, but carded a 78 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 10th place at 218, or 2-over. He was seven strokes back of the individual medalist, Steve Scott of Florida, who recorded a 5-under 211 and won a playoff with Georgia's Michael Morrison.

Other Deacons competing at the tournament included senior Oscar Sanchez (Canary Island, Spain), who finished tied for 52nd with a 54-hole total of 228, or 12-over par. Senior Thomas Parker (Laurinburg, NC) placed 56th at 13-over, while freshman Jay Morgan (Choctaw, OK) and senior Juan Vizcaya (Madrid, Spain), placed 62nd and 65th, finishing 16- and 17-over, respectively.

The Deacs are next in action at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic in Dalton, Ga., on April 2-3.
