Winston-Salem, N.C. - Defensive tackle Kelvin Jones will be lost to the Wake Forest football team for four-to-six weeks after sustaining a broken left ankle in the Demon Deacons 26-14 win over Navy last Thursday.

Jones, a 6-1, 263-pound junior and graduate of Winston-Salems Mount Tabor High School, was considered a co-starter at tackle along with fellow-junior Kelvin Shackleford. He played 25 snaps in the season-opening loss at Air Force, then was injured after taking part in seven plays against Navy.

A two-year letterman, Jones started all 11 games in 1997 at defensive end before switching to tackle this past spring.

The loss of Jones impacts an area where Wake Forest was already somewhat lacking in depth. The only experienced reserve now available behind starters Fred Robbins and Shackleford is junior Clinton Wilburn. Next on the depth chart at tackle is redshirt freshman Milo McGuire, who has not seen any action in Wakes first two contests.
