Kelvin Moses to Undergo Knee Surgery

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Kelvin Moses, a veteran leader on the Wake Forest defense, will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Friday, head coach Jim Caldwell announced here today. Moses, who is entering his fourth year as a starting linebacker, is expected to be lost to the team for three-to-six weeks.
"Kelvin's knee has not responded to treatment or rest during recent weeks and our medical staff decided that surgery to examine his knee would be in order," Caldwell said. "There is no swelling in the knee and our doctors do not anticipate any serious or long term problem, but this should relieve the discomfort for Kelvin and we will hopefully have him back soon."
A 6'2, 232-pound senior from Hartsville, SC, Moses leads all current Deacons with 33 career starts and ranks 11th on the Wake Forest career list with 317 tackles. He led the '96 team with 128 stops and was second on the tackle chart a year ago with 85.
Wake Forest opens its 1998 schedule on September 5th at Air Force, then hosts Navy on September 10th in a nationally televised (ESPN) Thursday night contest. The Deacs then have a 16-day break before opening ACC play at Clemson on September 26.
