WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Linebacker Dustin Lyman, Wake Forest's leading tackler through five games and the 5th-leading tackler in the ACC, has been sidelined indefinitely with a knee injury and may be lost for the remainder of the season.

Team doctors confirmed today (Monday) that Lyman, a 6'4, 248-pound junior from Boulder, CO, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Saturday's loss to Duke. He missed only one of 80 plays during the game, but began experiencing stiffness and swelling in his knee on Sunday. A MRI (magnetic resonance imagery) exam Monday revealed the extent of the injury.

Lyman was considered a likely all-conference candidate for the Demon Deacons, having led the team in tackles in all five contests. His 62 total stops this season are 26 more than linebacker Abdul Guice's total of 36 tackles, which is second on the team.

The loss of Lyman adds to a growing list of major injuries for the Wake Forest defensive unit. Linebacker Kelvin Moses, a three-year starter, has appeared briefly in two games (three plays versus Appalachian State; nine plays versus Duke) after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in August. His status for the rest of the season remains questionable.

Starting tackle Kelvin Shackleford sustained a torn ACL in his right knee in a September 26th win at Clemson and is out for the year. Another veteran lineman, junior tackle Kelvin Jones, has missed the last three games with a broken bone in his right ankle. It is hoped he could return to action this week.
