RALEIGH, N.C. - Wake Forest scored four second-half goals to earn a 5-0 win over NC State today at Method Road Soccer Stadium. The Deacons had two goals within a minute of each other to push the lead to 4-0 in a physical contest that was marked by six yellow cards and 40 fouls between the two squads.
Wake Forest had a 1-0 lead at the half after junior Chad Evans headed in a corner kick by senior midfielder Kyle Bachmeier. After the break, Serge Daniv beat NC State goalkeeper Eric Handley for an unassisted goal at the 54:02 mark.
Evans recorded his second assist of the day at the 68:43 mark, when a goal by sophomore forward Jaron Barbee gave Wake Forest a 3-0 lead. Less than 30 seconds later, junior forward Victor Litovka scored on an unassisted goal. Junior Trent Lind recorded Wake Forest's final goal at the 87:34 mark on an assist from Litovka. Wake Forest, ranked No. 16 nationally by Soccer News, improves to 8-2-1 overall, 1-0-1 in the ACC, while NC State falls to 3-8, 0-4 in the ACC. NC State returns to action Wed., Oct. 14, hosting Mount St. Mary's.
