WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- Wake Forest freshman center LaChina Robinson was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 10th, it was announced today.
Robinson helped give Wake Forest its second ACC win of the season, and its first ACC home win since the 1996-97 campaign, as the Demon Deacons defeated Georgia Tech last Monday, 77-72. The rookie center from Alexandria, Va., netted 22 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, and two steals - all career highs - while shooting an impressive 66.7 percent (10 of 15) from the floor. She was a major factor in the team's come-from-behind win, scoring 12 points during a 15-1 Wake Forest run midway through the second half which put the Deacons ahead for good.
It is the first ACC weekly honor of Robinson's career, but the second for a Demon Deacon this season. Sophomore forward Olivia Dardy was selected as the ACC Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 14th.
Wake Forest is currently 6-8 overall and 2-2 in the ACC. The Deacs host No. 13 Duke tonight at 7:00 pm.
