Women's Soccer Drops Game to No. 18 Clemson

CLEMSON, SC - The 18th-ranked Clemson women's soccer team rallied for a 1-0 deficit to post a 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over visiting Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon in Clemson, S.C. With the victory, Clemson improves to 3-3 overall, 2-1 in the ACC. Wake Forest falls to 4-2-1 and 11-1 in league play.
The Demon Deacons jumped out to a 1-0 lead only 3:18 into the match when Stefanie Mathews scored a break away goal off a pass from Emily Taggart. Clemson rallied to tie the score just before halftime when Sara Burkett scored off a free kick at the 44:13 mark.
Clemson took the lead at 58:22 when Beth Keller scored from 18 yards out off a cross from Sheri Bueter. The Tigers held the Demon Deacon offense in check for the remainder of the day, allowing just six shots on goal. Clemson's Katie Carson made three saves in goal while Erin Regan recorded seven saves for the Deacs.
Wake Forest will return to action on Friday, Sept. 25 when the Demon Deacons face Missouri in the first round of the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
