Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest womens soccer team received its third straight invitation to the NCAA Championship playoffs Sunday evening with the announcement of the 48-team field for the 1998 tournament.
The Demon Deacons, 13-6-1, will play at Georgia on Wednesday (Nov.11) in a first-round match. The winner of that contest will play at Virginia next weekend.
"Were obviously excited to be in the NCAAs again but we are in a very difficult group," Deacon coach Tony da Luz, the ACC Coach of the Year, said after the announcement. "With four ACC teams in our bracket (12 teams) and our having to play on the road every game, we certainly have our work cut out for us."
Wake is one of five ACC schools to receive bids. Defending national champ North Carolina is the top seed in the tournament. In addition to Virginia, Maryland and Clemson also received bids.
