WINSTON-SALEM, N.C - Wake Forest women's basketball head coach Charlene Curtis has announced the signing of JOHANNA BJORKLUND, a 6-4 center from Stockholm, Sweden, to a national letter of intent during the spring signing period. Bjorklund joins previous signees Heather Miller and Tiffani Listenbee to round out the Demon Deacons' class of 2003.
A member of the Swedish National Junior, Senior, and Under-20 Teams, Bjorklund will bring both size and scoring ability to the Deacon lineup. For the past two years, Bjorklund has started for the Alvik Stockholm club team, which competes in the highest Swedish basketball league (Elitserien). In 1998, she helped Alvik to a national runner-up finish. At the junior level, Bjorklund led her under-20 team to two straight Stockholm City championships (1996, 97) and a Swedish Championship (1998), while also helping her "born after 1980" team to two Stockholm City championships (1997, 98) and a Swedish Championship (1998). She once scored 53 points in a single game as a junior player, and she netted 31 points in the 1997 Stockholm Championship to earn player of the game honors. Bjorklund has competed in two Swedish National Youth Championships (1995, 96), earning MVP honors in 1996, and she was named to the 1998 Junior Swedish Championship All-Star team.
The addition of Bjorklund to the roster gives the Demon Deacons four 6'4" players in the frontcourt lineup.
