WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Two-a-day practices for the Wake Forest football team begin here Tuesday as the Demon Deacons conduct drills as a full squad for the first time.
Wake's freshman class has been involved in preseason activity since August 11th. The upperclassmen, including 27 seniors, reported to campus Sunday. The full team of 100 players will now undergo practices at 6:45 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. each day this week through Friday.
On Saturday (August 21) Coach Jim Caldwell's squad will hold its annual "Photo Day" at Groves Stadium at 1 p.m. Deacon players and coaches will be available for pictures and autographs until 2:30 p.m. A practice session open to the public will follow at approximately 3:30 that afternoon.
"Our freshmen have had a very good week," Caldwell says. "This is an attentive group. They have picked up our offensive and defensive schemes quickly and worked hard. We're obviously excited about putting them together with our returning players and getting started on Tuesday."
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday sessions will involve helmets and light gear. The Deacs will practice in full pads for the first time on Friday.
