Wake Finishes 13th At Ridges Tournament

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.-- Freshman Brent Wanner (Orleans, MA) finished fifth in his first collegiate appearance as the Wake Forest men's golf team finished 13th out of 15 teams at The Ridges Intercollegiate golf tournament. The tournament, which featured seven teams ranked in the Mastercard Preseason Top 25, was played on the 7,055-yard, par-72 course at The Ridges Golf and Country Club.

The Demon Deacons 54-hole total of 907, or 43-over par, was 37 strokes behind team champion Oklahoma, who shot a 6-over 870 to wrap up the team title by five strokes. North Carolina's Max Harris earned individual medalist honors, finishing the 54-hole event at 211, or 5-under par.

Wanner shot 73-72-72=217 to finish at an impressive 1-over par which tied him for fifth place and was six strokes out of the lead. Other Deacons competing included sophomore Jay Morgan (Choctaw, OK), who finished 47th (+12), freshman Chris Yoder (Ashland, OH), who placed 63rd (+16), freshman Chad Wilfong (Thomasville, NC), who was 68th (+19), and junior Jamie Gallacher (Surrey, England), who came in 69th (+20). Freshman Buck Williams (Raleigh, NC) competed in the event as an individual and placed 71st at 21-over.

The Deacons are back in action next weekend at the Cavalier Classic Sept. 19-20.
