On the length of games:
It's been a concern for most coaches I think. I happen to be a member
of the rules committee and we distribute a survey every year to all the
coaches and some concerns have been raised with the length of games and
we've been contemplating and discussing ways to shorten the games.
Nothing has been done yet, but I think things will change because of the
number of people that have expressed disconcern with the length of
games.
On the length of games due to TV timeouts:
Last year I think our games were 2:56 minutes long in our conference
without TV and 3:24 minutes on average with TV, so that is quite a
difference. We obviously want to be on TV, but I think that the TV
networks wouldn't mind shortening the length of those games either
though.
On Georgia Tech's offense:
There isn't really anything that they lack. They run the ball extremely
well. Burns and Gregory have been exceptional in terms of getting down
the field, getting some big plays and breaking some tackles. Their
fullback, Wilder, is a big guy. They have a solid offensive line in
front of some really strong running backs. Then in terms of passing,
Godsey has been incredible. He has hardly turned it over and has thrown
something like 10 touchdown passes already and his receiving core, led
by Kelly Campbell is just outstanding. They just have weapons all over
the place.
On Wake Forest's fullbacks:
We've been fortunate to have several guys playing well back there. We
anticipate playing three or fours guys there in this game as well. It is
a nice combination of fullbacks that we will probably continue with
throughout the season.
On effectiveness of true freshmen quarterbacks:
There are very few of them that play extremely well as true freshman.
They need that time to adjust to the speed of the game from high school
to college level. We like to redshirt all of our freshman, but sometimes
you need them sooner than expected. I think a guy like Mike Rivers has
played extremely well down at NC State and it is very rare to see a true
freshman come out and handle things like he's handled them and be as
productive as he's been this season.
