RICHMOND, Va. - Wake Forest freshman forward Eafton Hill delivered a game and career-high 22 points and the Demon Deacons outscored Richmond 46-25 in the second half to post an 87-69 victory today before a crowd of 5,579 at the Robins Center.
With the win, Wake Forest improves to 3-1 overall, while the Spiders fall to 2-3 on the campaign. Senior guard Candice Edwards paced Richmond with 12 points. Junior forward Tasha Swaby snared eight rebounds. Senior forward Carolyn Constantakis had seven rebounds for the Spiders.
Hill was joined in double figures by freshman guard Tonia Brown with 16 points and senior guard Kristen Shaffer with 10 points.
The Spiders owned a 44-41 halftime advantage behind Swaby's seven points at intermission. Richmond owned a 50-49 edge with 15:44 remaining. From that point, the Demon Deacons staged a 29-2 run and led 73-52 with 9:53 to go. Brown registered 10 points in that span and Hill supplied seven points in the decisive stretch. The Spiders could get no closer than 16 points the remainder of the game.
Wake Forest's defense tightened in the second half as the Spiders shot just 34.3 percent from the field in the second half and 34.7 percent for the game.
Wake Forest returns home to take on Coppin State on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 5:00 pm at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
