Deacons Play Home Finale Saturday Against Defending National Champion Florida State
Wake Forest, coming off its first win of the season -- a 28-26 victory over visiting Duke last Saturday -- entertains defending national champion Florida State Saturday afternoon in the final home game of the season (3:30 p.m./tape delay TV on Sunshine Network). The Deacons, 1-7 overall and 1-5 in the ACC, led from start to finish last week but had to hold on at the end to beat the Blue Devils. Sophomore Tarence Williams, who rushed for a career-high 154 yards and three touchdowns, helped seal the victory with a 72-yard TD scamper in the fourth quarter to give WFU a 28-19 lead. Duke came back to score a touchdown with 53 seconds remaining, but Wake recovered an onside kick to secure the win. Third-ranked Florida State, 9-1 and 7-0, has just one blemish (a loss at Miami) on its schedule, but the Seminoles remain in the thick of the national championship picture. The Seminoles are coming off a 54-7 win over 10th-ranked Clemson in Tallahassee last Saturday night. Florida State leads the all-time series, 15-2-1. The Seminoles have won the last eight meetings including a 33-10 win over the Deacons last season in Tallahassee. More series information can be found on page four.
