CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Schuye LaRue scored 18 points and Telisha Quarles added 17 as No. 16 Virginia held off Wake Forest 77-71 on Sunday.
The Cavaliers (22-7, 13-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) led 35-23 at halftime and stretched the lead to 16 points on a basket by Elena Kravchenko with just over 10 minutes to play.
But Wake Forest (7-20, 3-13) began chipping away at Virginia's lead, pulling within six points on a 3-pointer by Brenda Kirkpatrick with 4:23 left. That was as close as Wake Forest would get until the end, when Alisha Mosley scored with 1.7 seconds left.
Mosley finished with a game-high 21 points. Kirkpatrick added 12 and Kristen Shaffer had 14.
LaRue, who scored 10 of her points in the second half, also had 11 rebounds. Renee Robinson added 12 points for Virginia, and Svetlana Volnaya had 11.
