WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Three Wake Forest football players - defensive tackle Fred Robbins, linebacker Dustin Lyman and cornerback Reggie Austin - were selected in the 2000 National Football League Draft, held April 15-16 in New York City. It marks the most Deacons taken in an NFL draft since 1993.
Robbins was selected in the second round by the Minnesota Vikings, making him the Deacs' highest pick since Ben Coleman was selected by Arizona in the second round in 1993. Robbins was the 55th overall pick in the draft. Lyman and Austin were both taken by the Chicago Bears, with Lyman going in the third round as the 87th overall pick and Austin going in the fourth round as the 125th pick.
In addition, seven other members of the senior class which led Wake Forest to the Aloha Bowl Championship in 1999 have signed free agent deals with NFL teams. They are: wide receiver Marvin Chalmers (Cincinnati Bengals), wide receiver Jammie Deese (Washington Redskins), offensive tackle Todd Hollowell (Cleveland Browns), defensive end Kelvin Jones (Green Bay Packers), running back Morgan Kane (Carolina Panthers), linebacker Kelvin Moses (New York Jets) and quarterback Ben Sankey (Green Bay Packers).
