WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Two former Wake Forest football players, defensive end Mat Petz and running back Morgan Kane, were selected by the Montreal Alouettes in the 2000 Canadian Football League Draft, held Tuesday, April 18, in Toronto. Both players are natives of Canada.
Petz, who started for the Demon Deacons in 1998, was selected by Montreal in the second round and was the 12th overall pick in the draft. Petz was academically ineligible to play for the Deacs as a junior in 1999 and subsequently left the team. He is a native of Windsor, Ontario.
Kane was taken by the Alouettes in the third round as the 16th overall pick in the draft. In 1999, he totaled 1,161 yards rushing for the Deacs and was a second-team All-ACC pick. On Monday, one day prior to the CFL draft, Kane signed a free agent contract with the NFL's Carolina Panthers. He is a native of Ottawa, Ontario.
