ATLANTA, Ga. - The Wake Forest Men and Women's track teams completed competition in the first day of the Georgia Tech-Reebok Invitational today. The meet was held at the Griffin Track on the Georgia Tech campus. This is the final meet in which to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships for both schools.
Freshman Alan Susi led the men's team today in the javelin throw with a ninth place finish and a heave of 187'07.00. The mark was a season high and a career personal best for Susi.
Junior Joe Ladapo finished 11th in the long jump with a mark of 23'03.25, his second best distance of the season.
Senior Jill Snyder led the women's team today capturing third place in the 1500 meters with an NCAA provisional mark of 4:22.77. The mark was Snyder's second fastest time in the event this season. "Jill fought hard in the race, probably the hardest she's fought all year. One of the girls who beat her was a post-collegiate and the other was from East Tennessee. She's on the bubble to get into the NCAA's right now at 17th, but we feel good about her chances," women's Coach Annie Bennett remarked about Snyder's performance.
Also competing for the women, junior Sara Day finished second in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:36.89.
Tomorrow's events are scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. and finish at 5:30 p.m. The Deacs that qualify, or have already qualified, will move on to the NCAA Outdoor Championships held at Duke University on May 30th - June 3 in Durham, NC.
