Wake Women's Golfers Improve Through 36 Holes

Sunriver, OR - The Wake Forest women's golf team wrapped up the second round at the NCAA Women's Golf Championships at the Crosswater Course in Sunriver, OR today. The Deacons will enter the third day of competition tied with Michigan State for 16th place. The team posted a 305 to give Wake a 613 through 36 holes.
Junior Marta Prieto leads Wake Forest through two rounds, shooting a two-under 70 in the second round to give her a score of 147 heading into the third round. Prieto, who lists in a tie for 10th place, is the only Wake golfer to crack the top 10. Freshman Maria Beautell also played strongly for the Deacons. Beautell shot a two-round 150, and will enter tomorrow's round in a tie for 26th.
Sophomore Katie Brenny and senior Kelly Kirwin are each tied for 105th place with a 160. Brenny carded a 79 in today's round after shooting an 81 on the opening day. Kirwin shot a 78 on the first 18, but tallied a 10-over 82 through the second 18. Freshman Nuria Clau rounds out the Deacon lineup, placing in a tie for 117th after shooting a 77 and 86 on days one and two, respectively.
"We need to get four solid rounds going in the next two rounds," said head coach Dianne Dailey. "We need to be more consistent on the course. The girls really want to finish in the top 10, and I think we can."
The University of Arizona leads the field after carding a three-under 285 as a team. The Wildcats will enter the third round with a 584, 12 strokes ahead of second place USC. Julia Kraschinski of Arizona leads all individuals with a four-under 140. She shot a five-under 67 in today's round after finishing the first 18 with a 73.
Wake Forest will begin play on the second 18 tomorrow at 1:30 PST on hole 10 of the Crosswater Course at the Sunriver Resort. Tee times for the championship round of the event will be determined based on team finishes through the first three rounds.
