Wake Men's Soccer Signs Eight For 2000 Season

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's soccer program, coming off one of the most successful seasons in the program's history, have signed eight new players for the 2000 season.
"We are very excited about this group," head coach Jay Vidovich said. "I think the individual qualities of each player will help us not only in building a foundation for the program's future, but they will also give us the ability to win games and play soccer the way we believe it should be played."
The group included two goalkeepers. William Hesmer comes to Wake Forest from Wilson, N.C. He played on the Region III Olympic Development Program (ODP) team. He played for the North Carolina State Team and the Charlotte Soccer Club Team. He was also in the Adidas Elite Soccer Program (ESP). The second goalkeeper of the group is Rob Vartughian from Englishtown, N.J. Vartughian was on the Under 23 Region I ODP Team.
Danny Bolin is a 5-7 midfielder from Knoxville, Tenn. Bolin was in the Under 20 National Team Pool, as well as the Under 17 National Team Residential Program. Bolin was on the Region III ODP Team and the Adidas ESP Team. He also attended the Bradenton Soccer Academy in Florida.
Another midfielder in the group is Brian Carroll from Springfield, Va. He was in the Under 20 National Team Pool and was on the Under 18 National Team. Carroll was named Parade All-American as a junior and senior. He was on the Adidas ESP Team.
Kelvin Jones is a 5-10 defender from Fredericksburg, Va. Jones was on the Region I ODP Team, the Adidas ESP Team and was in the Under 20 National Team Pool. He was a member of the Braddock Road team that won the national championship.
Arthur Sherman comes to Wake from Los Angeles. He stands 5-7 and will be a defender for the Deacs. Sherman was named All-State as a senior and was a member of the AGSS Soccer Club.
Kurt Schmid will also play defender in his time at Wake Forest. He played at South Torrance High School in Torrance, Cal. He was a member of the California South ODP Team. He was also a member of the Adidas ESP Team and the Irvine Strikers Soccer Club.
The lone forward in the 2000 signing class is Jeremiah White from Lansdown, Pa. White played on the Region I ODP and Adidas ESP Teams. He was also All-Delco Player of the Year and All-State as a senior. White played on the FC Delco Club Team in Eastern Pennsylvania.
