OPELIKA, Ala. - The Wake Forest men's golf team won a sudden-death team playoff with the University of Georgia this morning to advance to the final two rounds of the 2000 NCAA Championships at the Grand National Golf Club in Opelika, Alabama.
Both schools were tied for 15th place after yesterday's second round, forcing the playoff for the final team spot in the 36-hole cut. The teams played the 18th hole in a sudden-death format this morning, with the low four scores from each team counting. Wake and Georgia tied the first playoff with two pars and two bogeys each, but WFU won the second playoff with two pars and a birdie by freshman BUCK WILLIAMS, while Georgia netted four bogeys.
The Demon Deacons will continue playing in the NCAA third round today, and they tee off from the 10th hole at approximately 10:25 am Eastern time.
