WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Larry Leonard, who has more than 23 years experience as a coach on the college and high school levels, has joined the Wake Forest coaching staff head coach Charlene Curtis announced today.
Leonard coached on the college level from 1986-92 at Elon College, where he was an assistant coach for the men's team. At Elon, Leonard was involved in the day-to-day operations of the program and assisted in the direction of the Elon College Basketball Camp.
On the high school level, Leonard enjoyed a highly successful head coaching career. In 13 years as a head coach at Waynesboro (Va.) High School and Brookville High School in Lynchburg (Va.), he produced an overall varsity record of 197-106. Over his last four seasons on the prep level (1993-96), Leonard's teams posted a 70-26 mark. During his 11-year tenure at Waynesboro, 11 of his players went on to play college basketball.
"I am truly excited about having Larry Leonard join our staff," Curtis said. "He brings a wealth of experience to our program, he's an excellent teacher of the game and he works extremely well with student-athletes. Larry is also familiar with our program, which will allow him to hit the ground running."
Leonard, who calls Burlington (N.C.) home, earned his undergraduate degree from Lynchburg College in 1973 and he earned his graduate degree from that school in 1979.
