WEST LAFAYETTE, In. - Buck Williams, an upcoming sophomore at Wake Forest, shot a two-under 70 last Friday to take the individual title at the Western Junior Championships in West Lafayette, IN.

Williams, of Raleigh, NC, sank a 23-foot putt for birdie on the 18th hole at Purdue's Kampen Golf Course, to finish the tournament with a four-round 287. After heading into the fourth round tied for the lead, Williams birdied three of the first six holes to take the lead for good.

This past season, Williams posted a 75.3 stroke average in 13 of the 14 Deacon events, and shot a team-high 11 rounds under par. His best round was a 69 and he finished third at the Cavalier Classic -- a season-best for Williams. During the fall and spring seasons, he tallied three top-20 finishes, including a 19th-place finish at the ACC Championships.

The Western Junior tournament, ran by the Western Golf Association, is the oldest national junior tournament of its kind.
