WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The heat let up but the Wake Forest football team did not, as the first week of preseason camp came to an end Friday afternoon. The Demon Deacons looked sharp after an early morning workout followed by a tough afternoon session.
"We had a good day," said head coach Jim Caldwell. "The morning practice was sharp and very crisp. The afternoon practice was a little more sluggish, but everybody is getting acclimated to the heat. We're making some progress. We've got a lot of young guys out there and we've got to learn a lot of football in a short period of time."
The Deacs, who worked out in helmets and shoulder pads for the second time today, will have their photo day at Groves Stadium Saturday afternoon and will wear full pads for the first time on Sunday.
"We're going to have one practice on Sunday with full pads," Caldwell said. "The first thing we are going to do is continue on with our teaching. Now we have the opportunity to work on some of our low blocks and take guys to the ground a little bit in terms of our tackling, which we haven't done of as of yet, but will still continue to work on our fundamentals."
Wake Forest will kick off the 2000 season on Thursday, August 21 in Groves Stadium against Appalachian State. Tickets are available by calling 1-888-758-3322.
