We got to sleep late today and that felt great. I felt like I slept for two days. During the summer, getting up late usually meant noon. But compared to 5:45 a.m., what we've been doing all week, 9:30 felt pretty good. I could to that every day. Compared to a 5:45 wake-up call, well, I could do that every day.
Coach Caldwell took us to chuch in downtown Winston-Salem at 11. We've never done that before. Coach told us that we would substitute church for practice. Amen to that. Of course church wasn't mandatory, but I'd say that 80 or so guys went. I think it's good for us to interact with the community.
We had meetings early this afternoon, followed by a short practice (about one hour, 10 minutes).
I'm starting to hear it from my teammates about this diary. Every now and then one of them will say, "How's Ray's Way doing? Or, everything is Ray's Way." "Smoke" (Montique Sharpe) gave me a hard time today. I know he reads this, so I can make fun of him. Here's what Smoke does (Sharpe is a defensive lineman). When it's time to do reps, Smoke doesn't always step forward. He'll wait until coach (Theo) Lemon calls on him. He'll do a couple of reps, then go hide.
When we (the defensive line) go head to head with the O-line, things can get pretty heated. The toughest guy for me to go against? Definitely Michael Collins (junior offensive tackle). He has great footwork and is very physical. I also have trouble sometimes with Blake Henry (sophomore offensive tackle). Because I play on the outside, I usually don't go against some of the interior guys.
We have meetings tonight, then tomorrow we put on full pads for the first time. We'll be hitting before most people wake up.
