BRYAN RAY DIARY -- August 9, 2000
Two-a-days start tomorrow and I have mixed emotions. First, I can't wait for the season to start -- I am really excited about our team and the possibilities for this season. At the same time, let's face it, no one looks forward to practicing... twice a day... in the heat. No one.
Right now I am exhausted because I'm just not used to this schedule. I've been awake at 6 a.m. the last two days and I'm definitely not used to that.
This morning I got up at 6, we had meetings from 8:50 to 11, 1 to 3 and then more meetings at night. Most of the stuff we are going over is very basic to me, but it should be -- I am a senior and I've been through this many times. On one hand I wish we could just fast forward to new stuff, but I realize that this is a young team and we need to really focus on the fundamentals. We can't start thinking about Appalachian State tomorrow -- we'll think about them later this month. Right now we just have to concentrate on getting better each and every day.
We had a team dinner last night. It was really the first time that everyone was there -- the veterans, the new guys. We had a good dinner, but the thing you notice is how excited everyone is to get started, how everyone has such a good attitude.
After that we met again and filled out tons of paperwork. Wake Forest stays within the the NCAA rules, that's for sure. That's what most of that paperwork was -- compliance stuff.
The first two full team practices are tomorrow (Thursday) and I'm anxious to get going. August 31st will be here before you know it.
