Wake Women's Soccer Battles Back To Beat Ohio State

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Wake Forest University women's soccer team, ranked 12th in the nation, defeated Ohio State 2-1 in overtime Friday afternoon in a neutral game in the Ellis Copy Tiger Invitational. The heat index was 110 degrees at Audrey J. Walton Soccer Complex.
Ohio State got on the board early in the game when Lindsay Eckles took a pass from Emily Thorpe to score for the Buckeyes. Still down 0-1 at the intermission, Wake Forest turned up the pressure, outshooting Ohio State 10-4 in the second half. With six minutes left in the match, sophomore forward Joline Charlton connected with a cross from Stacy Roeck to tie the game 1-1, where the score remained for the rest of the regulation.
Wake Forest continued its assault on the Buckeye's goal, outshooting Ohio State 4-0 in the sudden death overtime period. The Demon Deacons won the game at the 96:24 mark when Roeck tapped a cross from Colleen Bradley to Sarah Kate Noftsinger, who buried it into the net for the game-winning goal.
Tracy Chao got the starting call in goal for the Deacs. The sophomore >from Raleigh, N.C. played defender last season, but moved into net this season after Wake lost two goalkeepers to knee injuries during the preseason. Chao played the entire match in her first career start and collected five saves.
Ohio State falls to 0-3 on the season and Wake Forest improves to 3-0. The Demon Deacons return to action on Sunday to take on the tournament's host, Missouri at 1:00 p.m.
