WILMINGTON, N.C. - Sophomore forward Andy Rosenband came off the bench to score two goals while Ben Stafford and Chris Lonteen collected a goal and an assist apiece as Wake Forest blanked UNC Wilmington, 4-0, in men's college soccer action Wednesday night at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Demon Deacons evened their record at 3-3-0 with the non-conference victory. The Seahawks dipped to 0-4-1 and dropped the second leg of a four-game homestand.
Lonteen, a junior from Rolling Meadows, Ill., opened the scoring at 20:00 when he took a through ball from Jason Barbee and slid the ball past UNCW goalie Harri Staven into the right corner of the net.
Rosenband then notched the first of his two strikes at 38:46. Brian Carroll's shot bounced off the cross bar and Rosenband followed through to push the lead to 2-0 at intermission.
Stafford, WFU's leading scorer, increased the margin to 3-0 at 53:11 when he took a pass from Jason Barbee and launched his fifth strike of the season. Rosenband then completed the scoring at 69:12 on a cross and one-touch from Lonteen and Stafford.
WFU goalie Rob Vartughian registered his first shutout of the season after picking up two saves. Staven had seven saves in his second start of the season.
