Quoting Head Coach Jim Caldwell:
On Wake Forest's performance after reviewing the game tapes:
"We just didn't play well and they played very well. Even though we didn't play well, if we hadn't turned the ball over in some key situations, we would have been in (the game). We made too many mistakes. They're a pretty good team."
On playing back-to-back rivalry games:
"They'll be a good team at the beginning of the season, they'll be a good team at the end of the season. We played him before. We've lined up across from him before and he's a very talented guy. I think we've got a guy who will be able to emulate him a bit in practice in (freshman backup quarterback) Anthony Young. So our defense will get a look at a guy who can scramble and make guys miss. But, we're not going to change a whole lot. We have to do what we do. That's our number one concern."
On having extra days to prepare for North Carolina:
"In most cases, it allows you an opportunity to work. We didn't get as much of an advantage from a defensive standpoint as much as we did from an offensive standpoint because their offense has changed. But it allows us to go into the game a little more fresh than you ordinarily would."
On C.J. Leak's performance:
"I think he's making progress. As first games go, he managed the game well. We didn't have any delay of game penalties which is highly unusual. He probably ran as good of a two-minute drill, no-huddle situation at the end of the game as you'll find for a guy making his first start. There were a lot of positives. I think you'll see him get better and better all the time."
On C.J. Leak's development:
"After a while, there will be things that he doesn't have to think about because they come so natural to him. But early on, he's just like a 16-year old behind the wheel for the first time. As a coach, you have to give it to them a little at a time. We have to give him some help so we don't have to lean on him as much."
Quoting Sophomore Running Back Jamie Scott:
On making his first collegiate start against Appalachian State:
"I know it's a whole different level but I'm trying to get same attitude I had in high school, to just relax, be confident and get the job done. Right before the game, I was a little nervous but there was a lot of excitement, too."
On Saturday's game against North Carolina:
"We're putting some extra time into some things this week and I think we'll do a lot better. One of the things that got us to a bowl game last year was the running game. As a team, we feel like once we re-establish the running game, the wins will come along."
On quarterback C.J. Leak:
"C.J.'s got a lot of talent. Now that he's got his first game under his belt, I think he'll settle down and get things going for us."
