The Wake Forest women's basketball team took a break from ACC action, defeating Coastal Carolina on Monday night at Reynolds Gymnasium, 77-59. The win improves the Demon Deacons to 10-8 on the season while dropping the Chanticleers to 8-8 overall.

Monday's win marked the first time since the 1996-97 campaign that Wake Forest has posted 10 wins in a season.

Freshman Eafton Hill (Boone, N.C.) and senior Olivia Dardy (Norwalk, Conn.) led the way for Wake Forest with 19 points apiece. Hill also grabbed 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the year.

Hill played a major factor in a Wake Forest run in the final 5:30 of the first half that gave the Demon Deacons a 42-28 edge at halftime. After Wake Forest took a 17-7 lead, Coastal had a hot shooting streak, hitting three three-pointers and cutting the lead to 25-24. Wake Forest then picked up the tempo, scoring the next 12 points and finishing the half on a 17-4 run. During that span, Hill had nine points, five rebounds and two blocks.

Wake Forest dominated the interior on both ends of the floor, outscoring Coastal 42-18 in the paint and blocking nine Chanticleer shots.

The Demon Deacon guards forced 19 Coastal Carolina turnovers and held CCU's second-leading scorer Alison Bach to three points on 1-of-15 shooting.

"I thought we had a great defensive effort," said Wake Forest head coach Charlene Curtis. "Our gameplan was to put pressure on their guards, and to not give them the looks they normally have. I thought we did a good job using our size advantage tonight."

Wake senior Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick (Waynesville, N.C.) contributed 16 points to go with seven rebounds. Brooke Weisbrod led Coastal Carolina with 16 points.

The Demon Deacons will return to conference play on Thursday when the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets invade Winston-Salem. The game will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. at the Joel Coliseum Annex, adjacent to the Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
