Women's Soccer Rolls Up Green Wave

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Wake Forest women's soccer team defeated Tulane 4-1 Friday night at Spry Stadium. Four different Demon Deacons netted goals in the victory, extending their winning streak to six games. After Tulane got on the board early in the game, Wake Forest scored three first-half goals and added another late in the game to cruise to the win.
"We got our result and we were able to rest a majority, if not all, of our starters in preparation for our next two games against North Carolina and Clemson," said Wake Forest head coach Tony da Luz, "so we got what we wanted."
Tulane's Colleen Lake lofted a shot from 35 yards out just over two minutes into the game, which sailed over Wake Forest goalkeeper Erin Regan's outstretched hands to give the Green Wave a momentary 1-0 lead. The Demon Deacons struck back 97 seconds later when senior forward Emily Taggart took a pass from Sarah Kate Noftsinger and beat Tulane's goalkeeper for the game-tying goal.
Joline Charlton netted the game-winner for Wake Forest in the tenth minute when she kicked in a pass from Alena Thom about five yards out into the lower left corner. Thom dished out another assist in the 30th minute when she found Wake Forest junior midfielder Katie Johnson about 25 yards out, who blasted a shot into the upper left corner of the Green Wave goal to give the Demon Deacons a 3-1 advantage at the intermission.
Freshman midfielder Kathleen Andrews added an insurance goal for Wake Forest in the 73rd minute when she chipped in a shot from the top of the box unassisted. It was Andrews' first collegiate goal.
Tulane falls to 4-6-0 on the season with the loss and Wake Forest improves to 6-3-1 with the win. The Demon Deacons return to action on Sunday, Oct. 14 when they travel to Chapel Hill, NC to take on the undefeated, top-ranked and two-time defending national champions, North Carolina at 1:00 p.m.
