Demon Deacons Seek Fifth Straight Win
Wake Forest (8-3-1), unbeaten in its last six games, will look for a fifth consecutive win on Wednesday night as the Deacons host Davidson (8-4, 3-1 SoCon) at Spry Stadium. The game is part of an eight-game homestand. Following the contest on Wednesday, the Deacons will have the weekend off before facing High Point next Tuesday.
Wake Forest Returns To NSCAA Coaches Top 25
The Demon Deacons re-enter the NSCAA Top 25 coaches poll this week, checking in at number 19, thanks in part to a pair of impressive wins last week, hammering Charlotte and Old Dominion by a combined score of 11-1. Earlier this season, Wake Forest was ranked as high as number nine.
Fireworks!
Any questions about Wake Forest's ability to score goals were answered last week as the Deacons found the net 14 times in just three games. The faucets were turned on against NC State with three goals but the floodgates opened against Charlotte. Wake Forest buried eight goals including two from Jeremiah White and two from Scott Sealy. The Deacons picked up three more tallies against Old Dominion, two of which came from Brian Carroll.
Dead End
Goalkeeper William Hesmer and the Deacon defense have allowed just two goals in their last 456 minutes of action, more than nine hours, dating back to the Maryland game. Wake Forest has shutout three of its last six opponents.
Series History: Wildcats and Demon Deacons
Wake Forest has the upper hand in the all-time series, holding a 14-4-2 mark against the Davidson. The Demon Deacons have used home field advantage to the tune of an 8-1-1 record. The current senior class of Christian Lonteen and Jamal Seale is 3-0 against the 'Cats with an 11-1 goal differential.
White Leads The ACC in Goals, Points
Sophomore Jeremiah White carries the title of the ACC's top scorer for the second straight week. White has nine goals in ten games, a total of 21 points. He has been on fire as of late with eight goals and three assists in his last six contests.
Hesmer Among ACC Goalkeeper Leaders
William Hesmer leads the conference in save percentage with an .841 mark, well ahead of the second place Scott Maslin of Duke who is at .791. Hesmer is second in the league in saves with 53 and ranks third in goals against average at 0.81.
Record Watch: William Hesmer
Just 15 games into his collegiate career, sophomore goalkeeper is making his mark in the record books. Hesmer has moved into 10th place all-time in saves. Although he doesn't have minutes to qualify for the other categories, he would rank second in goals against average and in save percentage.
