Stacy Roeck, a senior defender on the Wake Forest women's soccer team, was selected to Soccer America's Team of the Week on Tuesday after leading the Demon Deacons to a 1-0 shutout victory over NC State last week. The co-captain from Solana Beach, CA, scored the game-winning goal in the 79th minute of the game, giving Wake Forest its second straight ACC shutout win and a 2-0 start in ACC play.
Roeck a two-time All-ACC selection, came crashing through NC State's defense and kicked in a ball that teammate Emily Taggart had blasted off the Wolfpack's goalkeeper. The cornerstone of the Demon Deacon defense over the past four years, Roeck has played in 69 games at Wake Forest and started all but three. A versatile athlete, she plays a major part of the Deacs' offense also, as her latest score puts her in a tie for third place on the Wake Forest all-time scoring list with 18 career goals.
Wake Forest, 2-3-1 overall and 2-0 in the ACC, travels to Greensboro, NC, on Wednesday, Oct. 3, to take on UNC-Greensboro at 5:00 p.m. The Demon Deacons will return home on Saturday, Oct. 6 to host Brigham Young at 1:00 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
