WINSTON-SALEM, NC - A.B. Robbins, a sophomore defender for the Wake Forest women's soccer team was selected to Soccer America's Team of the Week on Monday after leading the Demon Deacon defense last week in the narrow 1-0 loss to No. 14 Clemson at home on Tuesday, Oct. 16 and the 4-2 win over No. 19 Florida State on Saturday, Oct. 20. Robbins, who hails from Richmond, VA, scored twice against the Seminoles, including the game-tying goal and the game-winner.
Robbins got her first goal in last Saturday's Florida State game when teammate Alli Hunt lofted a free kick from 20 yards out to the left post where Katherine Winstead headed the ball over to the 5-10 Robbins, who headed it in for the game-tying goal. Barely five minutes later, Robbins blasted a free kick from just outside the Seminole's penalty box into the upper right corner of the goal for the game-winner. She is now third on the team in scoring with five goals on the season.
The Demon Deacon defense, led by Robbins, held the 14th ranked Tigers to only eight shots in last Tuesday's game that seemed destined for overtime. Clemson broke the scoreless tie with just over two minutes remaining in regulation. Wake Forest controlled the ball a majority of the game, taking 18 shots, placing six on frame, but couldn't put any of its chances away.
Wake Forest, 8-5-1 overall and ranked 19th in the nation by Soccer America this week, is tied for third in the ACC with a 3-2 league record. The Demon Deacons return to action on Saturday, Oct. 27 when they travel to Durham, NC to take on Duke at 7:00 p.m.
