Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest men's soccer team used two second half goals by freshman Scott Sealy to pull away from NC State on Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium for a 3-1 win.
The Demon Deacons (6-3-1, 1-1-1 ACC) controlled the action for most of the game with a 21-6 advantage in shots. Wake Forest struck first in the 37th minute on Jeremiah White's sixth goal of the season. He finished a centering cross in the box from Sealy to give the Deacs a one-goal advantage.
For White, the ACC's leading scorer, it was his fifth goal in his last four games.
The Wolfpack (1-8, 0-3 ACC) wouldn't go away, tying the game five minutes later on Brock Trejo's first of the season from Damon Butler at 42:10.
The teams entered halftime tied at one and the score stayed that way until less than 11 minutes remained in regulation when Sealy took matters into his own hands.
Applying pressure by himself in the NC State penalty area, he caused confusion between goalkeeper Mitchell Watson and defender Damon Butler. They lost possession and Sealy gathered the loose ball, beating Watson for the game-winning goal at 79:41.
About six minutes later, Sealy put the icing on the cake with his second of the game with assists to White and Aaron Thomas.
Sophomore goalkeeper William Hesmer needed to make just four saves to help Wake Forest get the win.
With the win, the Deacons extend their unbeaten streak to four games.
The Demon Deacons also won their ninth straight game over the Wolfpack, a streak that dates back to 1995. Over the last nine contests, Wake Forest has outscored NC State 31-3.
The Deacons will play their next seven games at home beginning on Wednesday against Charlotte at 7:00 p.m.
