Listen to Coach Grobe from ACC Teleconference

Head coach Jim Grobe

Opening Remarks

"Of course I'm happy with the way we rebounded in the second half. We played really poorly in the first half but I have to give a lot of credit to North Carolina's football team. I think they took it to us in the first half. At half time we challenged our guys to come out and play with heart and show some character. I don't know if any of our coaches dreamed that our guys would come back the way they did. I was really proud of our players' effort and especially how they played down the stretch."

On Tight End Ray Thomas

"He started to play the way we hoped he would play at the start of the season. I wasn't pleased with him the first four or five football games. We expected great things out of him coming into the season. I just didn't think he played with consistently you would expect. We are very pleased with the way he is playing right now. He not only is catching the ball well he is doing a nice job blocking and showing us some toughness in there."

On progress towards balance in the ACC

"I think a lot of teams have raised the bar with Florida State in the league. Whenever you have a great football program like the Seminoles have, everybody in the league tries to elevate their level of play. You see a lot of games each week that are toss-ups. It is one of those leagues that each Saturday anybody has a chance to win so you have to play every Saturday."

"I think the more balance we have in our league it helps us nationally. It never is going to hurt us any year to have a great football team in the league. Florida State has been that team, now Maryland has emerged as really dominant team. Georgia Tech is really good. So it's not bad in any conference to have a lot of good teams in the league."

On Georgia Tech wide receivers

"If you watch them against Virginia you see how talented they are at that position. They have maybe as many as five guys that are averaging over ten yards a catch. You have a fine quarterback like Godsey and he knows that he can distribute the ball around and not worry about whose catching it. Everyone seems to focus on Campbell but they have a lot of great receivers."

On Georgia Tech's Joe Burns

"He has good foot quickness and a lot of lateral speed and movement. What I like about him, but I know I won't like Saturday is that he runs with some authority and breaks tackles."
