Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest men's soccer team was awarded an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament on Monday afternoon. The Demon Deacons received a first round bye and will host a three-team regional that also includes American University and Ohio State.
American and Ohio State will play on Friday at Spry Stadium at 7:00 p.m. Wake Forest will play the winner of that first round game on Sunday at Spry Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
"This was a goal our guys set before the season and to meet that goal is satisfying," head coach Jay Vidovich said. "We're very excited to host. It means a lot to the University and to our soccer program. It's nice to be home again where we've been successful this season."
The Demon Deacons have won ten straight at Spry Stadium and posted a 10-1 record at home this year. The only loss came against Dartmouth in the team's home opener on September 8.
For Wake Forest, it is the second time in three years the team has qualified for the NCAA Tournament and the sixth time overall in school history. The Demon Deacons enter the NCAA Tournament with a record of 13-5-2. Wake Forest is led by first team All-ACC players Aaron Thomas and Jeremiah White.
In the 22-year history of the program, the Demon Deacons have faced American just once, a loss in 1987. Wake Forest has a 2-0 all-time record against the Buckeyes, a 2-0 win in 1981 and a 2-1 win in 1988 in Winston-Salem.
