Listen to Coach Grobe from ACC Teleconference
Head coach Jim Grobe
Opening Remarks:
"I'm proud of the way our kids played this past Saturday. I think we played as hard as we could. We were fortunate enough to make some plays down the stretch and win a football game. It was great for our kids. We have been in seven games that have gone down to the last possession. We've lost our share of those games and have won some. It was nice to see our kids respond late and come back from being down and find a way to win."
On North Carolina head coach John Bunting:
"We had a great time playing golf this summer. You can tell he has a lot of fire. I was very impressed. He is a real bright guy and full of fire and intensity. He's the kind of guy I would like to play for."
On Tarence Williams or Fred Staton at running back:
"We have been playing both of them a lot. Freddy started out slower than Tarence. Tarence was our guy in spring ball and into August and early in the season. As the season has gone on, even with Tarence being healthy, Freddy has started to get more reps. If they were both healthy they would probably spilt time right now.
"Tarence has been practicing and is a little gimpy on that ankle but I have a feeling that by Saturday he will be ready to go. I think Freddy's performance this past weekend against Virginia, where he rushed for about 150 yards, I think he proved that he has got what we need to have in the lineup. We feel that we have two good running backs. Certainly we are looking at Freddy to be a starter right now instead of a spot player."
On UNC's defensive line:
"They have a great defensive front. Have great kids in the secondary. We were impressed with Georgia Tech and had a great night offensively. We have seen North Carolina give some other offensive football teams to shut down. I don't find any weaknesses up front because they are very physical and run to the ball so well. Our only hope is to try and balance things out a little bit. We need to try and throw the football more than we have been. Overall defensively they have great talent and are well coached."
On Wake's plan of attack:
"I have been a defensive coach most of my life and we are trying to do some things to keep defenses off balance a little bit. We are probably not running as much option as we would like to run. That is a function of the quarterback position. We try to balance it out. We try and throw off those running actions. We are trying to hit different areas of defense throughout the game and not keep hitting one spot."
