Deacons Close Regular Season On the Road at Clemson
Wake Forest (13-3-1, 3-1-1 ACC) closes the book on the regular season on Saturday night at Clemson. The 6th-ranked Deacons are unbeaten in their last 11 games and have won nine in a row, the second longest winning streak in WFU history. The 1989 ACC Championship team won 10 straight.
All-America Candidate Jeremiah White Leads The ACC in Scoring
Sophomore Jeremiah White continues to carry the title of the ACC's top scorer. White has 15 goals in 15 games, a total of 37 points. White has a goal in each of his last nine games and has registered a point in every game since Sept. 17. With a 10-point lead in the category, the Lansdowne, Pa., native is likely to become the first Deacon to lead the ACC in scoring since 1983.
Sealy Leads Rookies in Scoring Against ACC Rivals
Freshman forward Scott Sealy is a front-runner to become Wake Forest's first-ever ACC Rookie of the Year. The Trinidad native has been unstoppable in ACC games with five goals and one assist through five games, including two goals against both North Carolina and NC State.
Chasing History
A win on Saturday at Clemson would make ten consecutive victories for Wake Forest and give the Demon Deacons four ACC regular season wins. Both marks would tie school records. Additional school records are in reaching distance including the most wins in a season record (15). Each of these records were set by Wake's 1989 ACC Championship team.
Wake Forest Hopes History Doesn't Repeat The Deacons probably won't look to recent history for any encouragement prior to Saturday's contest. In their last visit to Clemson in 1999, the Deacs came to town with a school-record 16 game unbeaten streak (11-0-5) and a #3 national ranking before leaving with a 4-1 loss. This year, Wake's last loss came in the Palmetto State, 2-1 at South Carolina on Sept. 23.
Doing It With Defense The Deacon defense has shut out its last two opponents, Duke and Charleston Southern. The last goal allowed by Wake Forest came against UNC on Oct. 28, a span of 186 minutes entering Saturday's game.
Two At A Time, I Want Goals Early in the season, the biggest question mark surrounding the Deacons was their ability to score goals. That question has been answered. During the first six games, the Deacons averaged 1.5 goals per game. Over the team's 11-game unbeaten streak, they have averaged 3.5 goals per contest.
Record Watch: Christian Lonteen
Senior Christian Lonteen continues to work his way up the record charts. With an assist against CSU, Lonteen moved into third place on the all-time assists list. He needs just three more to tie as the school's co-leaders in the category. Also, he needs just three more points to make the top-five scoring list at Wake Forest.
