WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team defeated Remus Powerbasket of Austria, 82-60, in an exhibition contest at Reynolds Gym on Friday night.

Four Deacons scored in double-figures, led by junior Tiffani Listenbee (Clinton Township, Mich.), who notched a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Val Klopfer (Albany, N.Y.) and sophomore Tonia Brown (Roanoke, Va.) put on a show from beyond the arc, combining for 8-of-9 from three point range and scoring 14 points each. Brown also dished a team-high six assists. Sophomore Eafton Hill (Boone, N.C.) also posted double-digit scoring with 15 points and blocked a team-high three shots.

Both teams got off to a slow start, as the first point of the game, a free throw by Listenbee, wasn't scored until the 17:31 mark. The lead changed hands several times until it was knotted at 14 apiece at the 9:15 mark. Wake Forest then took the lead for good on a Klopfer three-pointer at the 8:38 mark of the first half.

After building as much as a 15-point lead, WFU led by just five at the break, 36-31. The Deacons' lead was cut to two early in the second period, but Wake was able to rebuild its lead by wearing down Remus Powerbasket, who used just six players throughout the entire contest.

As a team, Wake Forest shot 48 percent from the field and 63 percent from beyond the arc. WFU outrebounded Remus, 42-37, and committed 16 turnovers compared to the opponent's 23.

Samantha Woosnam was the leading scorer for the Austrian squad with 18 points. She also dished a game-high eight assists and tied with teammate Simona Jurse for a team-high eight rebounds.

Wake Forest opens the 2001-02 campaign on Monday, Nov. 19, when it hosts Appalachian State. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. in Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
