Box Score

Amber Schober scored her 1,000th point of her career and then some as Valparaiso defeated Wake Forest handily Friday evening, 74-46 at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

Valpo jumped out to a 17 point halftime lead and built it to as many as 38 in the second half on the way to their sixth victory in the last seven games.

Valpo took a 21-11 lead with 10:53 to play in the opening half as Schober's three-pointer topped the 1,000 point plateau, becoming just the seventh Crusader to accomplish the feat.

The Crusaders then came out the second half and saw the Demon Deacons score the first five points of the half. Suzie Hammel and Schober hit back-to-back three's to jumpstart another 9-2 spurt. Hammel made six treys and scored a career high 19 points.

The brown and gold went on one more big run, 19-4, over eight minutes to give Valpo its largest lead 74-36.

Schober led Valpo with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Jeanette Gray added 18 points, six boards, and seven steals and Marlous Nieuwveen chipped in 15 points.

LaChina Robinson led Wake Forest (6-5) with 12 points while Bianca Brown added nine. Tiffani Listenbee had 10 rebounds.

With the win, Valpo improves to 7-4 on the season and matches the win total of the 2000-2001 season. The Crusaders will return to action next Saturday night when they host Lipscomb at 7:05 p.m. in the ARC.
