A.W. Hamilton, a reserve guard on the Wake Forest basketball team, will transfer to another school Deacon head coach Skip Prosser announced today.
Hamilton, a 6-3 sophomore, has not indicated where he will transfer to, although he has expressed his intention to attend a school closer to his hometown of Georgetown, KY.
"I am sorry to see A.W. leave Wake Forest," Prosser said. "He is a hard-working young man and he is the consumate team player. However, I do respect his decision to transfer to a school closer to home. We wish A.W. nothing but the best."
Hamilton saw action in four of Wake Forest's 11 games this season, averaging 3.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. He scored a career-high nine points Dec. 7 against South Carolina State. Last season he played in 19 of Wake's 30 games, averaging 1.7 points and 0.4 rebounds per game.
The departure of Hamilton, coupled with an earlier season-ending injury to Dshamal Schoetz, leaves Wake Forest with 10 healthy scholarship players. The Deacons also have four walk-ons on the roster.
The 25th-ranked Demon Deacons will host 19th-ranked Marquette Saturday at 1 p.m. in Lawrence Joel Coliseum.
