"First of all, I am pleased with this recruiting class. The biggest danger we face being in transition is to rush into things too quick. We were determined here to be very patient and to only take players we felt that could come in and really contribute to helping us win in the Atlantic Coast Conference."
"I'm excited about this group. We've got some good talent. We're very pleased with what we were able to do in a short amount of time."
On the size of the class:
"Our feeling was, and it made our athletic director Ron Wellman a little
bit nervous, but if we only took eight or 10 kids in this class, I'd
rather do that than bring in kids who were going to sit for five years.
I think in this class, we have brought in a group of kids that have
ability. We have a great group of kids as far as character. That was
one of our very main concerns here. We want to build our program our
character at Wake Forest."
On recruiting in North Carolina:
"Our first thought is to bring in kids who can win at Wake Forest and
help us compete for championships and go to bowl games. With that said,
we will always want to take as many kids from in-state as we possibly
can. We want to compete in the state of North Carolina. The kids we
have coming in here from in-state can all play. We don't take anybody
just to be able to say we're taking kids from North Carolina. If we
take them, we feel like they can come here and win for us."
On Goryal Scales:
"When we watched Goryal on film, he's the perfect defensive lineman for
our scheme. We like to move our linemen around a lot and make offensive
linemen hit moving targets. This kid is one who's going to be special.
He's a guy who can play sideline to sideline. A lot of schools would
look at him and say he's not tall enough. For us, we feel like he's the
perfect size because he'll be a pad under pad type guy. He's the kind
of lineman that will drive offensive linemen in this conference crazy.
Not only that, but he's a wonderful kid."
